Cards for teaching children the ability to solve and compose arithmetic problems

Explanatory note.

Cards for teaching children the ability to solve and compose arithmetic problems.

Practical work with sets and numbers is essential for teaching children the ability to solve and compose arithmetic problems. Solving arithmetic problems is very important for the mental development of children, as well as for the formation of computational skills.

In older preschool age, children are taught to compose and solve simple arithmetic problems involving addition and subtraction within 10. To solve them, visual material is needed. For example, cards on which the condition of the task is depicted in illustrative form. This problem can be solved in FEMP classes, if you use substantive visualization and play out the plot of the problem.

.

Illustration objectives:

the condition is depicted in the pictures.

  1. Pictures providing object-specific clarity (objects and actions are clearly expressed: there are 4 apples in a vase, the boy puts three more apples)
  2. Pictures providing partial clarity (two balloons and one balloon burst)
  3. Pictures reflecting only the life situation (there are 5 books on the top shelf, and 2 books on the bottom shelf)

The proposed cards help introduce children to:

  • with the structure of the task;
  • with the arithmetic operation of addition. For example: “There were two red cars in the garage, then four more blue cars arrived. How many cars are there in total in the garage?
  • with the arithmetic action of subtraction. For example: “Three sparrows were sitting on a branch. Then one sparrow flew away. How many birds are left sitting on the branch?

Since learning should begin with familiarization with the structure of an arithmetic problem, a visual algorithm helps children in composing and solving problems. Also, during the first lessons in learning how to compose and solve problems, children can be offered illustration problems (cards) in which they need to find the sum (based on combining sets) or the difference (remainder). When composing such problems, you should go from small numbers to large ones (up to 10). First, one of the numeric data is one. These classes focus on familiarizing themselves with the structure of the problem, children’s ability to identify numerical data, establish connections between them, name and perform arithmetic operations of addition and subtraction. Since the decision during this period is based mainly on the perception of specific sets, which are clearly depicted in illustrations (objects, toys), children actually use counting instead of calculations. There are cards that can be used for various arithmetic operations, and others only for addition. There are cards with a larger initial term, and others with a smaller one.

Expected Result:

  1. The child will learn to compose and solve problems.
  2. Understand their difference from a story and a riddle.
  3. Understand the structure of the task.
  4. Be able to analyze problems, establishing relationships between data and what is being sought.
  5. Formulate the arithmetic operations of addition and subtraction.
