What to evaluate

You need to understand that musical ability does not just mean the ability to sing or play an instrument. There are many factors to evaluate, including:

  • ear for music;
  • sense of rhythm;
  • coordination and motor skills;
  • musical memory;
  • musical flair.

Some factors are determined by physiological data, others by characteristics of character and temperament. Accordingly, some skills can be successfully developed almost from scratch. For example, any professional music teacher knows how to develop a child’s hearing.

Another thing is innate musical intuition. Not all popular singers, composers and musicians can boast of having it. Therefore, if from an early age a child demonstrates the ability to easily reproduce melodies, then music lessons must be present in his life. At the same time, if the baby, in the opinion of adults, does not sing very well, it is too early to put an end to his musical abilities. Performing songs is, to a large extent, an indicator of the ability to master vocals, and this skill is not the only determining factor in the matter of a child’s musical potential.
