Pudost residents are the best at playing national games
The festival of folk games and national sports, which has become traditional, has long gone beyond the boundaries of the Pudost settlement, and its fame has spread far beyond the Gatchina region. At various times, the festival participants included the Consul General of Finland in St. Petersburg Pirje Tulokasa, world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev, Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova and many others.
Traditionally, the organizers of the festival are the administration of the Gatchina district and the Pudost settlement, as well as the Gatchina public organization of Ingrian Finns “Inkerin Seura” and the Pudost cultural and leisure center. The main idea of the annual sports festival is to unite people, regardless of their nationality, through fun and simple folk games.
Guests and participants of the festival were greeted by the chairman of the committee on local self-government and organizational work with the population of the district administration Igor Pavlov, public assistant to the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Leningrad Region Konstantin Ermakov, and the head of the administration of the Pudost settlement Elena Ivaeva.
Elena Nikolaevna thanked the ideological inspirer and chief judge of the festival, Viljo Adamovich Ostonen, for his inexhaustible energy, active life position and development of sports in the territory of the Pudost settlement, and also presented him with a memorable gift.
— Our festival began as a local holiday. I am glad that now every year he gathers a large number of teams from the settlements of the Gatchina region. During the festival, the youngest participant was three years old, the oldest was 86 years old. Our competitions are not held for the sake of sports results, although they are also recorded. First of all, this is the promotion of fun and sports games for residents of any age,” said Viljo Adamovich and wished everyone a good mood.
Before the start of the festival, its participants were invited to warm up a little and plunge into the national flavor of the Ingrian Finns. Pupils of the Pudost House of Culture performed the song-game “Jos sul lysti on...”, which translated into Russian means “If life is fun.” The guests of the festival repeated the movements of the girls, and at the command of the presenter at a certain moment they shouted the phrase in Finnish “Totta kai!” ("Of course yes!").
15 teams from the settlements of the Gatchina region took part in the festival, competing in both team and individual competitions. As part of the festival, they had to compete in such national games as boot throwing, Russian towns, Pudost petanque, bowling, and Mölkkyu (Finnish skittles).
During the competition, Andrei Kostromin, a representative of the team from the Susaninsky settlement, said that he takes part in the festival every year, as it always takes place in the fresh air in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
— The festival attracts with its unusual games and competitions. Unfortunately, we have never won, but we believe in our victory,” he said.
The representative of the School of the Third Age, silver volunteer Vera Bondareva, who came to the festival for only the second time, but can already boast of excellent success, agrees with him. So, last year she became the best in the individual competition in driving a nail.
- We really like it. The games are easy but very addictive. There is real excitement. We thank the organizers for the warm, cozy atmosphere. We always come with pleasure,” said Vera Georgievna.
Based on the results of the competition, the hosts of the festival, the team from the Pudost settlement, were recognized as the best. The second place was taken by the team from the Elizavetinsky settlement. Bronze was awarded to the team from the Siverskoye settlement. The winners and runners-up were awarded certificates and medals from the Gatchina District Sports Committee.
