Beautiful congratulations on Sinichkin’s day, cards, history of the holiday

Quite original holidays are celebrated annually in different countries of the world. Their culprits are not anyone, but animals. For example, in Spain there is Sheep Day, in Russia we have Deer Day. Residents of the town of Otumba, Mexico, have enjoyed a regular donkey festival for more than forty years. And the French in the town of Cluis organize a snail carnival. Of the birds, such a holiday is addressed only to one feathered one - tits. The date November 12 is called “Titmouse Day”.

Titmouse Day: history and traditions of the holiday

A small bird with bright plumage leaves neither adults nor children indifferent.

The tit is one of the most famous birds in our country. It got its name not because of the color of the feathers on its back, as many people think, but because of its singing, reminiscent of the sound of a bell: “zin-zin”. Tits usually settle closer to residential buildings, although they do not like close contact with people, preferring to keep their distance and take food from a feeder rather than from their hands. In mid-November, Titmouse Day is celebrated - the time when these birds, like other “wintering” species, fly to us with the onset of cold weather.

When is it celebrated?

Titmouse Day is celebrated on November 12th. This day was officially approved as an environmental holiday in Russia several years ago, although the tradition was observed among the people for many years. In fact, the holiday has become their modern rethinking.

history of the holiday

Our ancestors believed that it was on November 12 that wintering birds fly to cities and villages. On this day, adults repaired old bird feeders and hung new ones, and children fed the birds. The Slavs believed that tits brought happiness to the house, so they tried to lure these bright birds by placing feeders near houses, and hanging strings with pieces of lard on trees.

November 12 has been the official Titmouse Day for several years now, created on the initiative of the Russian Bird Conservation Union.

Holiday traditions

Despite the fact that over time many holidays change and take on a different appearance and meaning, the essence of Titmouse Day remains the same - help and support for small birds that have become part of the familiar picture of the city landscape.

Today, as in the old days, on November 12, residents of cities and villages traditionally celebrate the meeting of wintering birds - bullfinches, crossbills, jays, tits, waxwings, nuthatches and others.

Therefore, migratory birds fly away to warmer climes, but wintering birds that are not afraid of the cold remain. Today we have gathered to Fr. For a long time in Rus', Titmouse Day was celebrated on November 12, this is the day of meeting of wintering birds. People prepared feeders, read poems about birds, asked riddles, played and simply admired the winter birds. Why exactly Titmouse Day? Yes, because the tit was considered the main bird for Rus'. The name “tit” was given to the birds for their sonorous songs, reminiscent of the ringing of a bell: “Zin-zin!”

Guess what kind of bird it is: Small dark, white from the belly, tail spread into two tails.
(Swallow) Tit: Well done guys! Titmouse: I heard that you know a lot about us wintering birds. It's hard for us in winter. If the winter is mild and warm, we will survive, but if the winter is fierce, it will be difficult for us. It’s not easy to get food under the snow, and it doesn’t take long for a hungry person to freeze. So we birds are drawn in winter closer to human habitation, hoping for his help and kindness. Traditionally, on Titmouse Day, feeders and small pieces of lard were hung out, which the lively birds are great hunters of. It is easy to train tits to fly through a window by hanging the feeder first next to the window, then placing it in an open window, and then in a room not far from the window. Accustomed to dining in the warmth, the birds even begin to knock on the glass with their beaks if they find the window closed. Tits often suffer from their gullibility, since they are much easier to catch than bullfinches, tap dancers or goldfinches, which also move closer to housing in the winter. But titmouses do not tolerate captivity well; they often break their heads and bleed, trying to break through the bars of the cage. Therefore, it is better to admire them in nature. Presenter: The kids have been sitting too long, it’s time to play! Game “Feed the Birds” 5 people are invited from each group. Everyone gets a ball. His task is to get into the feeder (bucket). Music sounds. accompaniment.

Titmouse: Guys, you are so dexterous and fast! Presenter: Well done! We completed the task. We also suggest playing the game “Who Sings How.” I will name the bird, and you show me how it sings. Cockerel, cuckoo, crow, sparrow, goose, chicken. Well done, the titmouse still wants to play with you! Game for attention “Tits” Mugs (or put hoops) are a nest. All children are tits. They fly freely around the site. At the signal “Go home,” the tits quickly fly and try to occupy one of the houses. Whichever child is left without him loses.

Educator: Birds can be fed with sunflower, pumpkin, and watermelon seeds. You should not give birds roasted seeds and black bread. Birds readily eat cottage cheese, creamy margarine, unsalted meat, and fat. Mix these feeds and the birds will choose their favorite seeds from the mixture. More birds - fewer pests - higher yield. Feed the birds in the winter, they will repay you in the summer Physical training minute A nimble tit is jumping (jumping in place on two legs)
She can’t sit still,
(jumping in place on the left leg)
Jump - hop, jump - hop,
(jump in place on the right leg )
Spun like a top.
(spinning in place)
So she sat down for a minute,
(sat down)
Scratched her chest with her beak,
(stood up, tilted her head left and right)
And from the path - onto the fence,
(jumping in place on the left leg)
Tiri - tiri,
(jumping in place on right leg)
Shadow-shadow-shadow!
(jumping in place on two legs) Educator: Why do you think birds live in dreams all year round? Children: They want to be closer to people. Educator: Listen to the poem and look at the screen: what can birds eat in winter! Tits are popularly called acrobats because they are dexterous and can climb into any crevice. They have very strong legs with sharp claws; with the help of sharp claws, a titmouse can move along tree branches even upside down. The strong and hard beak easily removes insects from cracks in tree bark and crushes hard seeds and hazelnuts. The plumage of tits is thick and fluffy, they are not afraid of the cold, but birds can freeze only from hunger. Because tits are so useful, people have long cared for them, protected them, made them feeders and special tit houses. Guys, in order to feed the birds correctly, you must follow some rules: • Feed the birds in the same place, at the same time, and the birds will fly in by this time; • Birds need to be fed every day, you cannot feed them from time to time, it is in frosty weather that they need food every day to survive; • You need to put in a little food, precisely in order to feed and support during difficult times. If we take care of the birds in winter, in summer they will take care of our forests, gardens, and parks. And now my friends, more fun games await everyone. Game “The Birds Have Arrived” Titmouse: Guys, when I say the names of the birds, you clap, if something else, you stomp. Let's start! Birds, pigeons, tits, flies and elephants flew in... Birds, pigeons, tits, storks, crows, jackdaws, macaroni flew in... Birds, pigeons, titmice, rabbits flew in... Birds, pigeons, titmice, jackdaws and swifts, siskins and storks flew in. Cuckoos, swans and ducks. and thanks for the joke!

Goal: To acquaint children with the features of the celebration of the holiday “Titmouse Day” according to the folk calendar. To form children’s ideas about the life of a tit and its characteristics; about other wintering birds. Foster a caring attitude and interest in wintering birds; mutual assistance, friendly relationships.

(Music sounds - birdsong. Children enter the hall)

Presenter: So the golden autumn has died down, the crowns of the trees have thinned, they have gotten rid of their colorful attire. September was surrounded by leaf fall, October was noisy with rain, November greeted us with the first frosts.

And as soon as it got cold outside, many birds began to fuss as if someone had scared them. But no one scared them... Not all birds like rain and frost. The time has come for some of them to fly to warmer climes. But some birds fly away from us, while other birds remain with us.

For a long time, in Rus', November 12 was celebrated as Titmouse Day, that is, the day of meeting of wintering birds. People prepared feeders, read poems about birds, asked riddles, played and simply admired the winter birds.

Why exactly Titmouse Day? Yes, because the tit is a bird of God for Rus'. Previously, in the old days they used to tell fortunes about it: they threw crumbs of bread, pieces of lard and observed: if the titmouse first begins to peck lard, then there will be livestock in the house; if it begins to peck at crumbs of bread, then there will be prosperity in the house. People used to say, “The titmouse is a small bird, but it knows its holiday.”

Folk signs about titmouses

The weather was judged by the behavior of tits:

  • The tit squeaks - it predicts winter, the cold is calling.
  • If a tit whistles, it means a clear day; if it squeaks, it means night frost.
  • Many tits gather at the feeders - in anticipation of a blizzard and snowfall. A tit screams in the morning - for a frosty night, and whistles in the evening - for a clear day.
  • Tits appear in flocks near houses - expect cold weather.
  • A tit caught in your hands promises the fulfillment of your wildest dreams.
  • A tit knocking on the window means good news, a gift.
  • When a tit sits on your hand, you need to make a wish, and if the bird gives its voice, your wish will come true.
  • Catching a tit in a dream is a sign of overcoming troubles and achieving goals.

The tit family includes about 65 species

The most famous are the great tit, tufted tit, blue tit, puffy tit, coal tit, and brown tit. Each of them has distinctive features. For example, the great tit is so named because its size actually exceeds that of other species. The blue tit is given such a melodious name because of the color of its plumage - it is blue on its tail and wings. The tufted tit has white spots on both sides of its head and a large crest.

The tit family includes many different species of tits, but the most familiar to Russians are the so-called great tits. They mostly live in Russia. Contrary to its name, there is almost no blue in the plumage of tits. More precisely, there is, but just a little, and only in blue tits, which also belong to this species.

The name “tit” does not come from the shade of the bird’s plumage - it is not blue at all. It's all about the ringing sounds made by yellow-breasted birds: “xin-xin” or “zin-zin”. It’s like drops running from the roofs - a sure sign that spring is approaching.

Tits are able to cooperate with birds of other families in search of food. Most often they form flocks with woodpeckers and pikas.

Ornithological experts argue that it is the flight of the tit, and not the hawk, crane, stork or crow, that is a striking example of the economical expenditure of strength and energy. This is why titmouse birds fly at great speed, but rarely flap their wings. It is this fact that allows birds to fly at enormous speeds - up to 35 kilometers per hour, while rarely flapping their wings.

Until the 17th century, by royal decree it was forbidden to kill tits. Violators of the law were subject to punishment - a large fine or flogging.

In Rus', on November 12, in addition to Sinichka's Day, two other holidays were celebrated - the Day of the Hieromartyrs Zinovy and Zinovia and the Festival of Fishermen and Hunters, which opens the winter fishing season.

According to legends, in order to catch game often next year, the hunter had to catch at least one hare on this day.

Tits do not know how to create hollows in tree trunks themselves, so they find and occupy strangers left by previous owners.

Tits are very trusting birds that are easy to tame. If you're lucky, you'll be able to feed them in a forest or park right from the palm of your hand.

It is also important to remember: if you start feeding the birds and hang up the feeder, do not stop this process, because the bird very quickly gets used to the feeding place.

Despite the fact that Sinichkin Day has been celebrated relatively recently as an environmental holiday, its history goes back to the distant past. November 12 is the day of remembrance of the Orthodox holy martyrs Zinovy and Zinovia, or, as they said in Rus', the day of Zinovy Sinichnik. People believed that it was at this time that tits, anticipating the imminent cold, flew from the forests closer to human habitation and waited for help. People noticed: if birds appeared in whole flocks near the house, it meant that frost was about to break out.

On this day, the weather was predicted by special signs: if a tit whistles, it will be a clear day, if it squeaks, it will be a night frost, many tits gather at the feeders - it will be a blizzard and snowfall.

If you want to feed a tit, do not give it rye bread. The little birdie does not eat the food immediately, leaving some in its crop. There it swells and “wanders.” Black bread contains more yeast than regular white bread, and the peculiarity of the type of grain from which the loaf is made contributes to the occurrence of such processes. Swollen pieces can cause the death of a tit.

Yellow-breasted birds make their nests in hollows, regardless of the species. Some find abandoned woodpecker hollows, others independently hollow out homes in tree trunks to prolong their offspring.

The nimble birds fly very quickly, unlike other birds. If you look closely at this action, you will notice how rarely the tit flaps its wings. In the air it describes gentle parabolas. This is truly an ace in his field!

Initially, the tit is a forest bird. She loves freedom, lack of freedom - for example, if someone catches a cute creature and puts it in a cage - she cannot stand it. Life forces the tit to colonize and populate the urban environment: cold and hunger. True, not all representatives of this family do this. Near your own home you may spot blue tits and great tits. And, say, brown-headed chickadees practically never leave their natural habitat.

Suffice it to remember the proverb: Better a bird in the hand than a pie in the sky. However, titmice do not like close contact with people and prefer to keep their distance. Even during extreme cold, tits try to take food from human hands on the fly.

Do you want to hand feed a titmouse? It's possible! Most likely, you won’t have to ask the nimble brown-headed chickadee for a long time to peck grain or crumbs. If a blue tit or tufted tit does this, you can consider yourself very lucky.

What to feed titmouses?

Many people have a logical question: what should they feed their tits?

To keep the birds happy, it is enough to pour pumpkin or sunflower seeds into the feeder. Buckwheat grains are also suitable, and for gourmet tits, you can put a small piece of lightly salted lard in the feeder. And then the tits will have a feast for the whole world.

Tits are generally very voracious - they eat all day long, so there should always be food in the feeders. It is interesting that this little blue bird puts all the grains that do not fit into the stomach in a hollow or other secluded place, and then returns for food.

Remember: yellow-breasted nimble little birds need your care and help not only on their holiday, but every day in winter. Don't disappoint them!

Make it a rule from today to feed the birds.
