Contents of a preschool teacher's portfolio
To organize the placement of information and materials necessary for the portfolio, it should be divided into several parts. What should be in the folder?
An example of a portfolio structure for a kindergarten teacher:
I – Introductory part;
II – Professional portrait;
III – Thematic folders:
- professional achievements,
- student success,
- documents confirming professional growth,
- recommendations, ratings and reviews.
General recommendations for section design
Many preschool institutions have their own characteristics of designing and maintaining a teaching portfolio. But, nevertheless, we can also give general recommendations, a sample portfolio of a kindergarten teacher, which will allow teachers to successfully work on creating a bright, meaningful folder in order to consistently and as completely as possible reflect the stages, directions and results of their professional activities.
We offer you some tips and recommendations on how to design a teacher’s portfolio and which sections to include.
Introductory part
Here you need to indicate:
- personal data (last name, first name, patronymic, date of birth),
- education (copy of diploma attached),
- general and teaching work experience,
- professional status (indicate the institutions where you worked as a teacher, periods of work and qualifications).
This information can be formatted as a summary or introductory paragraph. Some institutions also include a short autobiography in this section.
Professional portrait
You should be creative in the design of this section, because you will need to write something like an essay, talking about yourself as a professional.
The teacher can state the following:
- what caused the choice of profession;
- what qualities, in his opinion, should a teacher working in a preschool institution have;
- what are his professional interests and credo;
- a brief overview of the stages of teaching activity;
- prospects for professional development, existing achievements, including creative ones;
- topics of innovative and experimental areas of their work (if any).
At the end of this story, it would not be amiss to indicate how the teacher himself assesses his professional competence.
Thematic folders
Professional achievements
You can put in the folder:
- plans for working with students,
- notes on conducting open classes,
- reports for teachers' councils,
- lists of independently developed manuals (methodological, didactic),
- personal reports on the results of work during the academic year,
- descriptive or video materials on experience working with children and parents, etc.
By consistently adding to this folder (which will undoubtedly become the most voluminous part of the teacher-educator’s portfolio), it will be possible to create a rich selection of materials about the methodological and creative aspects of their work. In addition, this is an excellent opportunity to analyze existing professional skills in order to further expand and improve them.
Students' successes
The folder should contain:
- documents confirming the participation of children in sports events, competitions and exhibitions (copies of diplomas and certificates are also attached),
- documents on the participation of children and the teacher in any projects,
- data on the results of assessing the educational level of pupils, which is formed in the course of everyday activities with them.
Thus, this folder will accumulate materials that characterize the competence and activity of the teacher, his creative approach to working with preschoolers.
Documents confirming professional growth
The materials in this folder should contain:
- facts confirming the teacher’s advanced training, that is, completing courses, retraining, internships, receiving additional professional education, participating in professional skills competitions, seminars and conferences;
- certificates of encouragement received for high results of teaching work and public activities.
Analysis of these materials will allow us to judge the level of professionalism of the teacher, his dedication and healthy ambitions.
Recommendations, ratings and reviews
The folder name speaks for itself:
- working recommendations given by the head and methodologist of the kindergarten,
- various reviews received from parents and administration (employees) of the preschool institution,
- letters of gratitude,
- reviews of developed professional technologies.
The above and similar documents will be placed here to focus attention on the quality and effectiveness of the teacher’s work.

ESSAY “Me and My Profession” My profession is one of the most responsible, since the versatility of the development of children’s knowledge and skills, their beliefs, worldview, and moral qualities depends on my skill. My teaching experience is 25 years, I have been working as a teacher for 15 years. The components of my success are determination, responsibility, and communication skills. My teaching activity is to educate the younger generation, which is important for society. It takes place within the framework of the educational process and is aimed at creating optimal conditions for the upbringing, development and self-development of the personality of a preschool child. This allows you to give the child a certain supply of knowledge and skills, and develop his ability to use the acquired experience in life. My profession obliges me to always be extremely attentive, since I am responsible for the life and health of little people, for whom, depending on the circumstances, I have to act in different roles: a teacher who will teach everything, a playmate, a loved one who will listen, will understand and help in difficult times. JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROGRAMS USED The work program for the development of children was developed in accordance with the OOP MDOBU No. 21, in accordance with the implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard for Education. The work program ensures the diversified development of children, taking into account their age and individual characteristics in the main areas - physical, social and communicative, cognitive, speech and artistic and aesthetic. The work program was developed on the basis of the general education program of the preschool educational institution, compiled on the basis of the approximate general education program “From birth to school”, ed.
